I have a good original seat for my Deluxe. Many people who have ridden the Cannonball have said a comfortable seat is extremely important. So for that reason I have decided to use an older Harley Solo that has plenty of padding . Frank Westfall makes a seat pad and I have been told to get one of those also.
The first step was to inventory all the parts I had.
- My large seat U was worn badly and I decided to make a new U bracket. When I was a cabinetmaker we did a lot of curved work so I thought this would be easy. I set up and made a form just like I would if I was bending wood
- Ok, here here is a partial bend. It was clear I could not get a tight crisp bend this way.
- I ordered a metal bender from Eastwood. With this I was able to bend the brackets easily
- The U bracket is 7/16″ bar stock . I bent the U bracket and then threaded each sand. I made an extra seat U to practice using the bender.
- I chose to use a Harley seat T with the harley sole seat. Here is my 1st attempt at attaching the U bracket to the seat T
- I thought this was a great idea and had a certain cool look about it. Dan Emerson said his fear is that these pipe clamps are for static loads and would probably not hold up to what I wanted them to do. So I made some brackets the same as on the Henderson seat U
- The original bracket connects to the seat with these brackets. I made these with the new bender. Here is a bracket before it has been cut and shaped to final size.
- A few seat springs
- UGH broken.
- I had a set of seat springs with this bushing in it. A great idea, so I made a set for this bike.
- Here is my spring expander so I can bead blast and then finish each spring.
